Website Design and Your Business Success – The Connection Explained
It is no secret that designing a website can be overwhelming but it can also be fun. You have to admit that is enjoyable experimenting with different templates, layouts, graphics, text fonts, and more. However, fun is for building a personal website. You are building a website for your business. Yes, web design can still be fun, but you must look at the professional aspect. The overall design of your website is the first thing your potential customers will see; it is your one chance to make a good impression. If you were not already aware, your website design can literally make or break you; it plays an important role in your business’s success.
Here are some helpful tips to make web design fun, easy, and professional all at once:
It is very easy to find design ideas online. With a standard internet search, you can find thousands of free website templates. Now, you do not want to take a free template and use it as is. Instead, take a good template you found online and make changes to it. Do these changes yourself or hire a professional web designer. The end result is a design that started out free and is now anything but one of a kind, to something that is now unique.
Flash is not always better. Many web designers will tell you that flash is cool and yes it is. However, it is rarely a good idea for a professional business website. Remember, you need to create a professional look and feel. Eye-catching flash is usually best reserved for entertainment websites. Moreover, flash slows down a website and not all internet users are surfing the web with high speed internet. When asked, many businesses regret using flash on their website because it is a nice concept that typically tends to backfire.
Determine a good size and shape ratio for your web page elements. For example, you may want to have your headline a different size from the rest of your texts, your better images larger than the rest and so forth. When doing so, be sure you have something of importance on your page that standouts to readers. Look at it like a magazine cover; there is something about them (usually a headline) that captivates the attention of shoppers in line at the checkout. Most internet users click away from a website within 5 to 10 seconds; you need to make a splash and right now.
Web design is a phrase that is used to describe the building of a website that is about to go live. However, this simple phrase is so much more; it requires a wide range of skills. When building a website, you should have some of these skills or take the time to acquire them first. This will save you time, hassle, and money in the long-run. One of biggest mistakes new web designers make (especially when creating a business website) is jumping right into the design process without having a clear plan or idea in place.
However, one of the first things you want to do in the beginning is ask yourself a series of questions. These questions should include: who is my audience and what do they want to see? Take the answers to these questions and build yourself around those concepts; you are on the path to success, especially when you keep some of the above mentioned points in mind.
